The beginning of Red Hot Lightning has such amazing weather descriptions. Stormy Knight very effectively captures the atmospheric phenomenon of lightning, the pressure in the air and the internal feelings that storms bring out in people.  Speaking of those feelings, check out this description of what feelings the stormy weather brings on for Skye Miller.

“Not chocolate, a shopping spree, even a mechanical insertion of the best vibrator any woman could own would work. She needed a tease of the lips, a tongue begging entry, a hand between her legs and an erect cock waiting its turn.”

With Red Hot Lightning being a short erotic story, I was very impressed with the beginning followed by Brett & Skye’s “quickie”. It was a great appetizer to what I had hoped would be a combustible love making session or the main event for the story. But after the excellent beginning, Red Hot Lightning fell flat for an erotic story. 

The readers are teased for a main event and anal play that never happens. There was a great lead up by Brett after their first quickie, “I’ll teach you to enjoy the delight of the backside and entering you from the rear with us tightly cupped together.” So as a reader I am anticipating this build up and it doesn’t come. Instead we are treated to another “quickie” session.  Red Hot Lightning is a perfect short story where a reader likes a little bit of spice and prefers the implied sex over reading the actual descriptions and emotions.

Well I finished the Night Huntress series as far as I can go for now. *taps fingers waiting for Fall 2011* I avoided the teaser pages at the end because I can't stand angst while waiting for books to be released (so I have no idea what the next book is about). Afterall, I want to sleep between now and the fall and already having to wait for Diana Gabaldon's books drives me over the edge.

I completely totally 100% enjoyed each and every book. I love Cat and Bones as well as all their friends. Excellent series to dive into.

Now for This Side of the Grave, it was good but it didn't have me as spell bound as some of the other books. That's quite alright though. Not each of the books needs to be a 5 heart rating to be enjoyable and satisfying. This Side of the Grave was just that, satisfying. There was closure to some dragging storylines and some wonderful new plots were formed. *rubs hands*

Jeaniene Frost continues to write Cat with some of the best lines and the steam factor in This Side of the Grave was turned up. Hot wax anyone?

I had a few tears spring from eyes after reading a particularly emotional chapter and I laughed out loud many times. (thanks to Cat's lines). At the beginning of the book I felt a bit nostaligic with the story beginning where Cat and Bones first met and I loved going back to revisit the cave.  I also thought it was interesting that Jeaniene Frost brought back Timmie from the first book Halfway to the Grave so that makes me wonder what the future has in store for him.

Awesome turn of events with Cat's mom but I won't reveal as a spoiler and I continue to love Ian and Vlad. Ian wasn't in This Side of the Grave much but he delivers a funny line near the end that was one of my laugh out loud moments.  I also enjoyed that all characters from the Night Huntress World series made appearances. Love the "Fang Family".

So now we wait for One Grave at a Time!

Other than the absolutely horrible book cover, Eternal Kiss of Darkness was fantastic. But that cover? What were they thinking? The Night Huntress series have beautiful covers so why are they skimping out with the Night Huntress World series? Too bad really because if I had seen that cover on a shelf, I'd hate to say it, but I'd probably just walk by it. Well I guess don't judge a cover and all that right.

Book 2 in the Night Huntress World series Eternal Kiss of Darkness was excellent. I was worried since Book 1 First Drop of Crimson wasn't so good.

I always liked Mencheres. I think it's his power and his experience is such a draw to me. I love the way that Jeaniene Frost described him from the first book.  Now let's review how Mencheres is described in this book shall we?

"Kira knew that his tongue felt like a vibrator set to the speed of Oh Hell Yeah." And here is a little snippet of a conversation between Kira and Mencheres, "Dead or not, you must be bored with women telling you how you look like the hottest, most exotic wet dream they've ever had. No wonder the thought of you, grapes, and some scented massage oils crossed my mind - and if you drop that towel again, I'm goin to need a cold shower." whew - a cold shower indeed!

Kira is awesome and just the woman for Mencheres.  She is smart and doesn't leave me screaming at the book scoffing at the frequent female stupidity that some women are set up as in books. Now I wouldn't expect that from Jeaniene Frost since she brought us the fabulous Cat but after Denise in First Drop of Crimson, I had doubts. Kira loves Mencheres for just him. Not his power, money or how he can advance her status. She was brave, courageous and since I really like Mencheres, I am so pleased that I like the female written for him. I can't wait to read more about them.

And I do want to read more about them. I feel that Eternal Kiss of Darkness just sort of ended. I was so surprized when I clicked "next page" and that was it. I was wanting more!

Once again there was a great cast of secondary characters. I am definitely going to follow along on this spin off series. I am hoping that Vlad gets his own book. Radjedef was another villian you love to hate. The ploy he used against Mencheres was so frustrating that I felt helpless. I had no idea how Kira and Mencheres was going to get out of that mess. Awesome angst great book!
