Never Love a Highlander by Maya Banks

Caelen McCabe and Rionna McDonald’s book

Never Love a Highlander (book 3)

by Maya Banks

Book Blurb:
Caelen McCabe’s young, reckless heart nearly destroyed his clan. Now, putting family loyalty above all else, he steps up to marry his older brother’s jilted bride and salvage the uneasy alliance between two clans. While beautiful Rionna McDonald is a fit wife for any man, Caelen trusts no woman, especially not this sweet temptress who torments him with white-hot longing.

As the sacrificial lamb in her father’s power game, Rionna will do her duty but vows to protect her heart and her pride from humiliation. Despite everything, though, the heat in Caelen’s touch melts her defenses, and she craves the sensual delights of a husband who guards his emotions as fiercely as his clan. But when the ultimate battle for the McCabe legacy is upon them, Rionna’s true warrior spirit emerges. She will risk the wrath of her father, the fury of her enemies, and her life to prove to Caelen that his wife’s love is too precious to lose.

Never Love a Highlander was a spectacular ending to an immensely wonderful Historical Highland Trilogy. I loved each and every book and will happily add to my re-read list.

Each of the McCabe brother's personalities were vastly different and each of their story was completely different. I adored each one of them and for various reasons. Caelen was an awesome character to get to know. He seemed quiet in the first two books and there was a lot of mystery around him. What made him tick? What was he thinking? There was just enough of these lingering questions left over from the first two books to have me eagerly dive into his own book.

Caelen and Rionna were literally thrown together. I felt badly for Rionna as she was being rejected and tossed around from betrothed to betrothed. She deserved better but each time she held her head high and always her loyalty and duty came first. In fact, she was a little intimated by Caelen and he did little to resolve her of those feelings. Rionna earned my respect immediately and I liked her very much from Seduction of a Highland Lass book 2.

Caelen continued to be secretive to me. Of the brothers he had the most romantic flowery words flow from his mouth in the intimate scenes but outside of Rionna’s and his private chamber, he was all alpha and abrupt. He was so gentle in private but as Rionna stated it, “Tis the truth I’ll never bear a child if he doesn’t learn to close his mouth at the appropriate time.”

Eventually their love does bloom and Caelen and Rionna are the most suited couple for each other. They endured a lot together in Never Love a Highlander. I don't want to pepper the review with spoilers but there was never a dull moment. Excellent read on their journey of love and with lots of added action the plot was extremely engaging. I want to re-read the series right now!

I really hope the loyal Gannon gets a book or a happy ending somewhere. Not that he was miserable but he just deserves one.

Teasers – Winter in Scotland, husband and wife sword sparring, Caelen writing personal thoughts, extremely brave Rionna

Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks

Keely McDonald & Alaric McCabe's book

Seduction of a Highland Lass (McCabe book 2)

By Maya Banks

Book Blurb:
Fiercely loyal to his elder brother, Alaric McCabe leads his clan in the fight for their birthright. Now he is prepared to wed for duty, as well. But on his way to claim the hand of Rionna McDonald, daughter of a neighboring chieftain, he is ambushed and left for dead. Miraculously, his life is saved by the soft touch of a Highland angel, a courageous beauty who will put to the test his fealty to his clan, his honor, and his deepest desires.

An outcast from her own clan, Keely McDonald was betrayed by those she loved and trusted. When the wounded warrior falls from his horse, she is drawn to his strong, lean body. The wicked glint in his green eyes ignites a passion that will follow them back to Alaric's keep, where their forbidden love draws them deeper into the pleasures of the flesh. Bus as conspiracy and danger circle closer, Alaric must make an impossible choice: Will he betray his blood ties for the woman he loves?

So good. So so good. I love this new Highland trilogy by Maya Banks. I adored the first book In Bed with a Highlander and awarded it a perfect 5 hearts. Review here. This second book Seduction of a Highland Lass is also being awarded a perfect 5 hearts by me. I devoured it. I loved it. I could not put it down. I am ever so thankful that book 3 was released yesterday (and it was my birthday too) so I am off to pick it up today.

Seduction of a Highland Lass is truly a heart palpating, deep romance book that submerges the reader into the world of castles, arranged marriages and clan loyalty. Seduction of a Highland Lass is 100% pure love and torment about a couple that are so in love and with circumstances beyond their control, they can never be together. The conflict that prevented Alaric and Keely from being together was so heart wrenchingly painful to experience. I don't mean that in a negative way at all because the story totally engages the reader and whisked me away to a winter season in Scotland from a time long past. I felt I was there experiencing all the joy and sadness.

With loyalty, a pending war and the entire clan's happiness dependent on the arranged marriage between Alaric and Rionna (a daughter from a neighbouring clan) a solid wall was placed between Alaric and Keely that they must abide by. You experience their frustration and admire them both for understanding that they must put themselves second above all others.

My heart was pounding and my eyes were leaking leading up to the nuptials of Alaric and Rionna and then, right when the pair were about to recite their wedding vows the story takes a complete turn and I GASPED out loud. Oh the next chapter or so had me in a constant state of tears. Talk about emotional.

I just finished Seduction of a Highland Lass and I am still way too attached to the story. I don't think Seduction of a Highland Lass is a book I will soon forget. The McCabes' are on my re-read list. I was so totally in love with this story and can't wait to dive into the next book, Never Love a Highlander.

Matt's Return by Tessie Bradford

Matt's Return
by Tessie Bradford

Book Blurb:

Molly will never love another man. In the three years since Matt left, she’s somehow been able to pick up the pieces of her broken heart and start living again, but not knowing what happened to him, why he didn’t keep his promise, will haunt her forever.
Matt’s love for Molly kept him alive, fighting to return to her. Now, he’s finally come home.

Another excellent little Erotic Gem with Resplendence Publishing by author Tessie Bradford.

The beginning of Matt's Return throws the reader for a bit of a surprise because I thought this story going to be a non-consensual story (which I do not like). It turns out not to be that type of story and I'm glad I read just a little bit further because I would have missed out on a sexy hot story of a couple who deeply love each other.

It was sad that Matt and Molly were separated for so long. After three years and with Molly not moving on to another relationship, she had held out for hope that Matt would someday return home safe and sound. And what a homecoming it was!

Even though the pair were apart for so long, the minute they were in each other's arm, the lust and love came back in tidal waves. They can't get enough of each other and the reader benefits from their loving reunion. There is a bit of forgiveness necessary for Molly to have Matt back into her life but she's so in love, it takes her only a moment to reflect and accept him back.

Matt's Return has minor D/s elements but they are mostly implied and not heavy into the story so I would classify as a super light BDSM. Their lust and sex barely make it pass the front door and I think  Matt's Return is an erotic homecoming story.
